The Squeezebox is part of a new way of listening to your music. It is designed to hook up to your home computer network and play all of your music files through your stereo.
The sound out of the stock unit is VERY good. We did feel it could be made better.
The first thing we did was build a new power supply for it. This is a linear DC PS, designed to replace the small switching power supply that comes with the SQueezebox.
Replacing this alone, will improve the sound of your SB2 and SB3. The highs will clear up and be less harsh. The low end will extend and tighten up. You will be able to hear more dynamics
The power supply is very plain to look at but uses very high end parts.
It has an ACME Audio Silver Plated IEC connector, ACME Audio Silver Plated fuse holder, ACME Audio Silver Plated ceramic fuse, EI core transformer, HexFred rectifiers, Jensen four pole capacitors and a Linear Tecnologies regulator.
The ULTIMATE PS just got better!
We have just changed the regulator circuitry in the Ultimate PS MK II. We have added a tracking pre-regulator circuit to the already great PS. This lowers the noise floor EVEN MORE! The end result is a more balanced sound with an incredible tightness to the bass and larger soundstage and depth. There is more "space" between instruments.
This is a fairly significant upgrade to an already fantastic sounding PS.
All models of Ultimate PS can be upgraded to the new MK IV status.

It uses a Neutrik XLR connector to isolate the DC output
The Ultimate Power Supply can be built to output 5 volts for the SB2 or 3. It can be built for 9 volts to supply the DUET Receiver. It can be built for 12 volts to supply any number of DACs or even a Wadia 170iTransport
The power supply can be built to be used with either 120 or 240 volt AC input

We suggest one of our Nitro or Nitro Plus AC Power Cables to use with the Power Supply. We also offer a Nitro or Summit DC cable

"I was never planned on purchasing the Ultimate MKII (I was going to settle on Waynes digital mods and an eplac)....but within the first 10 seconds of hearing the the bolder digital modded SB and the Ultimate MKII.........WOW!! I was sold. Its the real deal. What everyone says about Wayne's ultimate ps's are true. For me the difference, when upgrading to this PS, was greater than when I upgraded my speakers and amps. The first thing I noticed was size of the soundstage...width and hieght, but depth especially! A lot of depth Smile Then I heard piano and couldn't believe all the weight and detail in the midrange that I was missing before. Midbass and bass, just as nice, stronger and weightier than before. Imaging also improved, the images are very "tactile" with this ps. Meaning lots of air around the instruments, its like you can reach out and grab them. So yeah...I'm sending Wayne a check for this power supply tomorrow. I like it..
I didn't think the DC cable from the PS to the SB3 would make much of a difference, but I was wrong. I think, the improvement with the Summit DC cable justifies the extra cost. Although, I don't have the nitro to compare it to...I made my own DC cable using a shielded twisted pair of 99.999% silver wiring, neutrik xlr, and switch craft dc plug. I was hoping I could save some money building my own. It works fine...but it doesn't sound as good as the Summit. The Summit has more air and detail, and more weight in the mids than my cable. The difference is enough that I'm probably going to end up buying a Summit DC "
